The Black Hole

unilluminable room

If Satan plays miniature golf, this is his favorite hole. A ball struck at A, in any direction, will never find the hole at B — even if it bounces forever.

The idea arose in the 1950s, when Ernst Straus wondered whether a room lined with mirrors would always be illuminated completely by a single match.

Straus’ question went unanswered until 1995, when George Tokarsky found a 26-sided room with a “dark” spot; two years later D. Castro offered the 24-sided improvement above. If a candle is placed at A, and you’re standing at B, you won’t see its reflection anywhere around you — even though you’re surrounded by mirrors.

Garden of Cosmic Speculation

Open to the public only one day a year, the Garden of Cosmic Speculation takes science and maths as its inspiration. Quite simply, there isn’t another garden like it in the world.

The Garden of Cosmic Speculation was set up by Charles Jencks and is located at Portrack House near Dumfries, Scotland. It was set up in 1989 without the usual ideas people have when they create a garden. Instead, it is designed with ideas in mind – and to provoke thought (or at least speculation) about the very nature of things.

Wish I could get back in to my comic strip EZEKIEL’S CAVE, but it’s just damn time consuming and my scanner/printer is a piece-o-junk. But back in 2008 ZEKE’S crazy adventures led him to meetings with Dr. Timothy Leary, John Lennon, Prometheus, Loki of Norse Mythology, and more! Check it out, maybe ol’ ZEKE will return some day soon…

Robots continue to grow in their importance amongst law enforcement, military use, medical research and care, space exploration and entertainment, among other tasks. Robots recently in the news include Russia’s decades-old Lunokhod rovers – recently photographed from Lunar orbit, the naming of “Curiosity”, NASA’s next Mars rover, and a robotic dental patient, designed for realistic training. Collected here are a handful of relatively recent photographs of robots around the world – and the solar system.
