Art is a beauty while war is a duty. For war gives a shrewd excuse for destruction, while on the other hand, art helps in prevailing sanity with its creative and comforting power. If men can create terrifying weapons, one can really imagine man’s intelligence to make a creative use of destructive weapons. Weapons cannot beget aesthetics, or can they? Insane Children’s Book Art Ruins Bedtime

What you’re looking at here are Heiri Strub’s illustrations from the 1956 Swiss edition of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Tinderbox, a fairly deranged 1835 children’s yarn about a trio of magic dogs with eyes the sizes of teacups, mill-wheels, and windmills, respectively.
