Jason Shawn Alexander illustrates and paints beautiful people who are bent and crooked from the struggles of life. However, he does it in a way that’s still appealing and uplifting to view. So, when you stand in front of his work you begin to feel up and contemplative, rather than ominous and down like you’d initially imagine from the darker pigments and conditions of his subjects.

When you watch a scary movie, it’s easy to console yourself by simply recalling that “it’s only a movie.” The same can’t be said of these news stories that are terrifying enough to become horror movie plots. Take, for example, the cell phone stalker.
We thought it would be interesting to revisit Carl Sagan’s great question: “What does it mean for a civilization to be a million years old? We have had radio telescopes and spaceships for a few decades; our technical civilization is a few hundred years old … an advanced civilization millions of years old is as much beyond us as we are beyond a bushbaby or a macaque.”
